Small Excavation Jobs and Tight-Access Work

No job is too small for Origin Earthworks. If you need a stubborn tree stump ripped out, a trench dug through a narrow garden gate, or a small patio sub-base excavated, our rubber-tracked mini-excavator can fit into tight urban yards without ruining lawn turf.

    INDICATIONS YOU REQUIRE OUR SERVICES

    Stubborn tree stump in yard
Tight gate access (under 6ft wide)
    Patio or shed pad excavation
Fence post hole digging or trenching
Small garden bed or rock removal

    Mini-Excavator Yard Services

Not every excavation project requires heavy equipment and a large crew. Many homeowners and small contractors need minor excavation work — a stump removed, a short trench dug, a patio base leveled — and they need it done affordably without tearing up the rest of the yard. Origin Earthworks specializes in small excavation jobs that bigger contractors won't bother with.

Our rubber-tracked mini-excavator is the ideal machine for residential yard work. It is compact enough to fit through standard garden gates as narrow as three feet wide, yet powerful enough to rip out stubborn tree stumps, dig trenches for utility lines, and excavate patio and shed pads. The rubber tracks distribute the machine's weight evenly across a wide footprint, protecting lawns, irrigation lines, and sidewalk edges from the damage that steel-tracked machines can cause.

Tree stump removal is one of our most requested small-job services. Stumps left in the ground after tree removal are not only unsightly — they can attract pests, create tripping hazards, and interfere with landscaping, fencing, or new construction. Our mini-excavator uses a hydraulic thumb to grasp the stump and rock it back and forth, breaking the root system free from the surrounding soil. We pull the entire stump and major root ball, fill the void with clean soil, and compact it so the area is ready for grass, landscaping, or building.

We also handle patio and paver sub-base excavation, removing sod and soil to the correct depth for gravel base and paving stones. For fence line projects, we can clear old fence posts, dig post holes, and trench along fence lines for concrete footings. Small drainage projects, garden bed excavation, rock and boulder removal, and minor regrading are all within our scope.

We offer hourly or fixed-rate pricing for small residential excavation projects with quick response times across Calgary. Our pricing is transparent and upfront — you know the cost before we start, with no surprise charges.

Big machines can tear up established yards. Our compact equipment is equipped with rubber tracks that spread weight evenly, protecting lawns, irrigation lines, and sidewalk edges.

    Small jobs we handle:
    • Tree stump pulling and root grubbing
    • Patio and paver sub-base excavation
    • Fence line clearing and trenching
    • Hot tub and shed pad preparation
    • Tight-access backyard regrading

Navigating Tight Backyard Access in Calgary's Mature Inner-City Neighborhoods

Calgary's mature neighborhoods are characterized by established landscaping, narrow side yards, and tight access conditions that make it impossible for full-size excavators to reach backyard work areas. Properties in communities like Mount Royal, Britannia, and Lake Bonavista often have beautiful lawns, irrigation systems, and mature trees that must be protected during excavation work. Our rubber-tracked mini-excavator is specifically chosen for these conditions — it can navigate narrow gates and tight side yards without damaging the landscaping that homeowners have invested years in cultivating.

Calgary's clay soils also present specific challenges for small excavation work. Clay becomes sticky and difficult to work when wet, and it can harden to a concrete-like consistency during dry summer periods. Our operators understand how Calgary's clay soils behave throughout the seasons and adjust their techniques accordingly. Whether working in the inner city or on acreage properties in the surrounding communities, we deliver small excavation services that are efficient, affordable, and respectful of your property.
